It all happened so fast....

All I know is that it was 9:00, and they started coming, and coming, and coming.
We prepared, and prepared, and prepared. Then we ate, and ate, and ate.
Finally we talked, and talked, (and laughed), and talked.
Then around noon they started leaving, leaving, and leaving.
It was a complete (and amazingly wonderful) blur.
We call it "Breakfast Club".
And this is all that I could capture.

Oh, what a lovely morning.

Fine...just fine...

I've been a bit compulsive lately. And when the compulsion hits, it hits hard, as evidenced with yesterday's trip to the feed store. All I needed was birdseed, and just the cheap kind, mind you. No frills, no special seeds...just something that resembles "grits" for birds. But as I came around the corner, my ears were filled with "cheep, cheep"....and not the "cheap, cheap" of the birdseed that I was looking for. We saw these....
And it wasn't long before both girls were surrounding the fluff-filled bin, quickly naming their three favorites (because at the feed store, the chicks are sold "3 for $7.50").
And once they got to hold them, there was no turning back.
Please meet our fine...just fine...feathered friends: Cheetah Sister, Blackie, and Goldie.
We'll be expecting to see you all in a couple of months when you need an extra egg or two.
Until then, I'll work on giving up "compulsion" for Lent, too.
Sigh.

The Fasting Continues....

It's nothing that was planned. Really. It just so happened that one morning I was getting ready to load the dishwasher, and thought "I could just hand wash all of these and just get it over with!" So I did. And it was so domestically lovely. It was so lovely, in fact, that I did it again with the lunch dishes, and then again with the dinner dishes. It was like poetry, but with soapy bubbles! Thus, I'm considering giving up the dishwasher for Lent. Some may think that I'm super spiritual...but as the good book says "As the cleansing of the pots is the cleansing of your soul." Okay...it doesn't really say that. But it sounded good.
Happy Lent.

Happy Presidents Day!

We have lived in Yorba Linda for three and a half years. We live exactly 1.38 miles from the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum. (I know because I just mapquested it!)
We drive by the grounds every cotton pickin' day. Have we ever been? If you had asked me this question prior to 10:45 this morning, I would have mumbled a shame-filled and whimpery "no."
But today, today!, it was Presidents Day and admission was free,
which made it the perfect time to visit!
We saw Theodore Roosevelt...
Abraham Lincoln...
and George Washington.
(I didn't say anything to the kids, but I don't think that these were the real presidents...)

This was the real presidential helicopter, though.
And the real house where Richard Nixon was born.
These were just real fun.
But this...this was the bomb diggity.
(but I don't think that they were real, either...)
~Happy Presidents Day~ for real.

This Last Week....Full Week...Feel Weak

Since we're on this homeschooling adventure, we have the luxury of doing some vacation day switcheroos. Technically we didn't have Monday as a school holiday, but the Oudoor Ed moms decided that instead of going snow tubing when everybody else is off of school, we would just celebrate Presidents Day a week early and school on the actual holiday.
Brilliant.
So up the mountain we climbed.
And down the snow covered hill we zoomed.

We had a fabulously fun time...until Ally pooped out...and hit the fence!
(emotionally...not physically!)
On Tuesday we celebrated my birthday with french toast and a homemade chai tea latte!
On Saturday Katie made Vanilla Waffles with vanilla ice cream and blackberries...
and on Sunday I finally finished the stitching on their valentines....at 3 am.
(Did I already tell you that God is working with me on my time management?)
Sigh.
Therefore, feeling a bit weak at the end of this busy (but oh, so fun) week.
Happy Love Day!

Such!

Last night I called a friend...and thanks to her sick husband (so sorry Paul), the call ended with an invitation to see Stomp at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood.
Such a great conversation , such a brilliant show, such a wonderful surprise,
such a wonderful day.

Such a sweet friend.
Thanks, Kristine!

A dinner tale...

First you get the water boiling...
Then you grab the package of pasta....not realizing that it was opened upside down...
and then you pick up all of the pasta off of the floor.
Then you don't say anything, put it in the pot of boiling water (see first picture) and cook it 10 minutes. Put it in bowls, pour pasta sauce on top, and be thankful that dinner is finished.

The End.
